Common Core Math in Parent-Friendly Terms
There is a great resource provided by the Council of the Great City Schools. It has a parent roadmap for each grade level with an overview of content, sample questions and activities you can do at home so you can successfully support your child in mathematics. You can view them online in English or Spanish and download the files you need.
The parent roadmaps above will help you get an idea of the types of problems your child(ren) will encounter in math. In addition to the content standards, there are also student practice standards. These are practices that K-2 students will need to learn and exhibit in order to successfully display mathematics understanding. When students practice these skills on a regular basis, they become better problem solvers and are then able to apply known content to figure out unknown mathematics.
